The Science of Reading is often mis-characterized as just being about systematic phonics. Yes, that is absolutely necessary to ensure students can decode. In addition, to that though, students need a high volume amount of knowledge. Thus, the more knowledge students have will drastically increase their reading and writing skills. Let’s look at the reasons behind why this is true.

  1. Knowledge builds on knowledge.
  2. Knowledge builds vocabulary.
  3. Knowledge writing proficiency.
  4. Knowledge building is dependent on often over-looked content areas.
