A Knowledge Building Curriculum.

My friends, I’m here to tell you that you do not need to purchase some fancy, expensive, so called aligned to The Science of Reading Resource to design a knowledge building curriculum. Let’s be intentional in what we are doing. Knowledge builds on knowledge. The more knowledges students have on a topic then the better skilled readers and writers they become. You will increase student’s reading levels and get ALL students to grade level and beyond. Let’s look at the steps below.

  1. Select your state standard(s) generally at least 2 plus a writing standard.
  2. Select a grade level text aligned to the skill or standard.
  3. Now select additional texts preferably at higher lexile level than the previous the first text.
  4. Select key vocabulary that is central to the meaning and will appear in multiple texts.
  5. Create a culminating writing task that is aligned to your state standard and lean into argument or opinion and ensures text evidence is cited from multiple texts. (Writing crystalizes information, knowledge, and facts.)
  6. Note: You will determine how many texts based on student needs and data.
