Differentiated Student Learning Experiences: What are the other students doing?

So what do we do when we have our students selected based on their data and have our instruction ready at our Teacher-led group only to realize the rest of the students are left hanging or worse doing low level “busy work.” Well you apply the same principles of DSLE(Differentiated Student Learning Experiences). It’s data-based, it’s engaging, and students WILL make learning gains. Follow these simple steps that will expose your students to grade level instruction that is relevant and intentional.

  1. Create your groups based on data.
  2. Grade Level Benchmarks: Students at grade level and above.
  3. Add another grade level or above grade level text to the Tier 1 Text-Set.(Students will be reading the same topic but at a deeper level)
  4. Task: Create a more rigorous task that hits the full complexity of the benchmarks.
  5. Create a WRITING TASK that is Text-Dependent.( Citing evidence)
