Ok educators, why the overemphasis on the research and evidence behind Systematic Phonics? Because this a major part of THE SCIENCE OF READING! You want clear evidence that teaching this way will actually work for ALL students. Remember we lead with research and evidence. One of the best vehicles to accomplish this is UFLI. Let’s review what systematic phonics will do in regard to the alignment with THE SCIENCE OF READING.

1. Phonological Awareness- Students learn the sounds of letters and be taught to manipulate them within words.
2. Phonics: Letters and sounds go together so students can DECODE.
3. Fluency: Students read grade-level text accurately and with expression.
